Umpa bhajji/ dumplings with leftover upma!

Rava upma is prepared by adding sauteed vegetables to roasted Rava and cooking all this in water. The trick is to add just enough water to cook the Rava and vegetables, adding more water will make it look like a soup , which we do not want.

If you are the health conscious types, you can make Upma with oats. In this post i will show you what to do with leftover Upma (upma of any kind).

What do you need to make Fried Upma bhajjis??

  • Leftover upma
  • Gram flour (besan / Senaga pindi)
  • Rice flour
  • Salt
  • Chilli powder
  • Tymol seeds (Ajwain / vamu)
  • Water to mix the flour
  • Oil enough for deep frying the bhajjis

How to make Upma bhajji?

Lets start with making small balls of the upma and keep them aside. My upma was full of vegetables, if yours is plain please add vegetables of your choice and then make small balls.

Now as a step 2 lets make the batter, in a bowl take gram flour and rice flour in a 4:3 ratio. add salt, chilli powder, 2-3 table spoons of oil and water and make fine batter. The batter needs to be free flowing so we can easily dip the umpa balls. The batter needs to coat the balls completely when we fry. That is it our upma balls are ready serve with tomato sauce.
