Crunchy Onion Raita

This simple Onion Raita is going to become your favorite Raita recipe. This comes together in less than 5 minutes and this is the my most favourate raita recipe. Simple , has very few ingredients yet it completes a festive meal. Whatever you serve it with,  biryani, pulao or any mixed rice. It sure wins hearts.

The most important thing when we make raita is to balance the flavours. This Raita i am showing today is unbelievably simple. The very few ingredients that go into it make it super easy and quick to make. You can customize your raita to your like. However this Onion Raita is the best and easiest. If you do not like the crunch element, serve it without the tadka.

Curd has immense benefits and if you like cooking you know how useful it can be to you. USed in some of the best curries , served in liquid for or as just plain curd. As kids me and my brother were not allowed to get up from the table until we finished eating the curd rice. This was like the finisher and we had to eat it. I did not realise the importance at that time but now i know, it is really filling with benefits and is a must.

Raita is not a new dish, but my recipe has a simple twist that will give your Onion Raita a nice crunch effect. This is my favourite part of the raita, you have to keep in mind that you do not add too much water to the curd when you beat it, else the raita will become buttermilk.

What do we need to make The Crunchy Onion Raita?

  • Curd
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Chopped onions
  • Fresh coriander
  • Green Chillies
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeera / Jeelakarra
  • Split Black Gram / Urad Daal / Minapa pappu
  • Oil

How to make the Onion Raita?

Step 1: Beat the curd into a smooth consistency and keep aside.

Step 2: Add the finely chopped onions, fresh and chopped coriander, add salt , finely chopped green chillies and mix this well.

You can as well serve the Raita like this, this is in fact the most popular way to make Onion Raita.

Step 3: In a small pan add some oil, wait for the oil to become hot, Add the Urad daal and fry for a bit; Now add the Cumin seeds and fry till they crackle. Pour this over the Curd and onion mixture we just prepared. That is it!!! our super easy and crunchy Raita is ready.
